What Shall I Tell People?


I don't want to tell people why I am really on this diet!

So don't! Start preparing your excuse. Tell them you got your food allergies/sensitivities tested and that you must do a 6-8 week elimination diet. Then, after you have not eaten the foods for this length of time, you will be able to try them again to see if they bother you. (Make up some symptoms that others would not necessarily know about- headache, stomach ache, tiredness.) If the foods do bother you, you will continue to avoid them. If they don't bother you, you can eat them again. This way, if the diet doesn't work for you, you can (of course, after making sure that other foods are not to blame) go back to eating them again.

I have found that people are generally supportive about allergies and want you to feel better. It will also keep you from cheating if people around know that you are supposed to be on this diet. (Or it will make you a closest cheater- I do this sometimes.)
