Make It Fun With the Kids

Be creative! If you act like you are excited, then your kids will be excited as well.

If you have young children, you could make a chart to put on your refridgerator that has different tasks which must be done, like setting the table, clearing the table, washing dishes, etc. If they do those tasks, they get a sticker. You might make up a point reward system, so that a certain number of stickers earns privileges or other special items. By having your kids do some of the work, it will make more time for cooking and meal preparation. You can participate in the game as well, you could get a sticker for each day you stick to the diet- winning a special privilege after so many stickers.

If your kids are old enough to read, teach them to read labels. Then, when you go to the health food store, have them go to the cereal section (or any other section) and find a cereal (or other product) that doesn't have sugar in it. Then, buy that cereal and try it together. You could treat it like you are taste testers. If you buy a couple cereals (products), you can try them together and vote for the best one.

When choosing recipes, pick a few and have the kids choose the ones they want. Because the kids have some choice in what is being prepared, they will perhaps protest less.

If you are having your whole family try the JK diet- thus absense of sugar being the major missing item- you could make a board to write down how each person feels each day on the diet. Your own little support group. After the initial withdrawl period, you could see who feels the best first- or whatever else you think of!

Try buffet style family meals that offer choice to the individual! To see those recipes, click here.

Try crock pot recipes- throw everything in the crock pot in the morning and food is ready to eat when you walk in the door at night. To see those recipes, click here.

These are just a few ideas I have thought of. Please e-mail me any others that have worked for your family at the e-mail address below!
