FundamentalsWelcome! You are about to embark on a new adventure. You will be learning to live a new lifestyle in the next few weeks as you embark on the John Kender diet. Think of these weeks as a learning process- you will perhaps be trying new foods, learning new ways to cook and transport food, learning to manage your time and prioritize your diet in your life. There will be many times when you feel deprived and frustrated. You will want to go out drink a liter of coke all in one sitting or eat a whole box of cookies- and maybe you will. But don't despair- just start right back on the diet again and keep going. It is all part of the learning process. However, remember that John says you must avoid all foods for about 30 days before your body is cleansed and you see real results (although you will likely see improvement after 10 days of strict adherence of the diet).
The basics of the John Kender diet are as follows. The foods which must be avoided are:
Sugar: All refined sugar, honey, maple syrup, corn syrups, alcohol, etc. Read more about sugar
Caffeine: Coffee, caffeinated tea, soda, chocolate, cocoa
Legumes: Soy beans (anything soy), peanuts, peas, garbanzo beans, string beans, green beans, ALL beans, licorice, alfalfa. (Also in the legume family- guar gum, kudzu, gum acacia, fenugreek)
Eggs- apparently egg whites are OK
Shellfish: Shrimp, prawns, lobster, crab, clams, oysters, mussels
Organ Meats: Liver, kidneys. Also avoid meats with nitrates if possible (in most packaged meats)
The following foods are questionable- Nutrasweet, Tomatoes, Grapes/Raisins, Nuts/Seeds (avoid if possible, be sure to record on your food tracking chart and notice symptoms afterwards, remove if you aren't seeing results)
The goal of the diet is to reduce as many suspected irritants for 6 weeks. Then, after 6 weeks, if you have seen improvement, you can test your system with each food in order to observe your physical reaction. If you have no reaction, then you may assume that food is not an irritant for you, and experiment with adding this back into your diet.
