Books I RecommendLick the Sugar Habit by Nancy Appleton This is the best book!!! It is very comprehensive and based on numerous studies and published works. Despite the silly title, I found the author to be well organized and non-fanatical about quitting sugar. She simply tells you how sugar functions in the system- which is alarming to say the least! The book covers the effects of sugar on the body's mineral balances, organs, immune system and the development of allergies. It even has a self-quiz and recipes in the back. I recommend that everyone read this book. I learned so much from it. Click here to go to Amazon.com and order it for $4.76 |

The Allergy Self Help Cookbook : Over 325 Natural Foods Recipes, Free of Wheat, Milk, Eggs, Corn, Yeast, Sugar and Other Common Food Allergens by Marjorie Hunt Jones The beginnning of this book is great- it describes how to do a rotation diet, talks about the food families of each food, and gives good cooking tips. However, some of her recipes have a lot of ingredients, so they may seem intimidating to the beginner cook. It is a great book for people with food allergies! There are over 325 recipes in here. The Complete Food Allergy Cookbook : The Foods You've Always Loved Without the Ingredients You Can't Have by Marilyn Gioannini This is the newest addition to my book family. She describes food allergies in the beginning and then provides lots of good information about wheat, dairy and egg substitutes. This is the best description about how to cook without wheat that I have seen. Her recipes also provide lots of alternatives and options. She has cooked all these recipes for her family and herself many times. The best part about this book is that she shows you how to take a "normal" recipe and convert it to an allergy free recipe. A great skill to learn- I am getting there. Click here to go to Amazon.com and order it for $12.80 |

Food and Healing by Annemarie Colbin I owe this book a debt of gratitude. This is the first nutrition book I ever bought. It lead to me on the path of exploring what I eat and how it affects me. It is because of this book that I discovered by allergy to dairy products. It explains all the "types" of eating such as macrobiotic, high protein diets, vegetarian, etc. and then goes on to explain her eating philosophy- the health-supportive whole-foods eating style. Some of this book is very intellectual, but it has a lot of great information about foods and how they affect the body. I absolutely have to recommend it.
